Most DSLR cameras come with a standard lens, usually in the 35mm to 120mm range.

For any serious photography. although these are adequate, a zoom lens adds scope and flexibility to your overall photographic experience. Also a wide angle lens is useful for close-ups and panoramic views.

The lens quality is inherent in the precision of the actual lens itself, with the electronics giving you the versatility  and adaptability of the application.

The Camera Body should determine the quality of the lens, you would not put a Austin A40 motor in a Ferrari, would be fun trying, but a hell of a waste of money.
